Who here really enjoys shopping? I'm talking about shopping for clothes, not fabric. Having four young children, I just don't go shopping. So, most of my clothes are either 4-5 years old, or hastily grabbed off the table at Old Navy before my kids can cause too much of a disturbance. I don't even remember the last time I've been in a mall.
I really need to liven up my wardrobe a bit, but don't even know where to begin! I've been browsing my "Dress Up" Pinterest board where I pin clothes I like and realized that apparently all I really want to wear are jeans and cardigans...

I started cleaning out my dresser and closet this morning and I'm trying to be ruthless about editing my wardrobe and making room for some new duds. I have way too many stretched out Old Navy tees and shrunken Target shirts. I've decided that once we move, I'm going shopping and livening up my closet.
So, here's what I want from you...give me your fashion expertise. Where do you shop and what do you buy? Favorite jeans? Let me know. Honestly, my favorite jeans are "Sexy Bootcut" jeans from the Gap that are about 4 years old. And I daresay there isn't anything sexy about them.
I have a lot of similar pins on my Pinterest board.. but I am shopping-handicapped, too. :/ There is an Ann Taylor Loft near me that has lots of cute things. And good sales sometimes, too!
ReplyDeleteLol. We shop at the same tired spots....Target....for the same tired clothes....jeans and t-shirts. But really do the kids care what you are wearing? And if you do dress up where ya going to go? Not very helpful I am afraid. I do like L.L.Bean's clothes. Rugged, comfortable and kid friendly.
ReplyDeleteNot Your Daughters Jeans. Shapes up all the right spots but feels so comfy. Pricey but worth it, and I've found last seasons on sale at 50% off! You must trust me in this-I would not lead you astray here!
ReplyDeletePersonal shopper is my dream job. I have a degree in fashion but my current job is in the dairy industry. Nothing wrong with jeans and cardigans as long as they fit well. They will go a long way in your wardrobe, just add some cute flats (or boots, or some comfy tennies) a feminine top, and accessories. Old Navy has some great stuff, look online before you go. Scarves are in right now and they have them everywhere, even walmart! I have been know to buy fun bracelets at Claires. Spend the bulk of your money on basics - good jeans, jackets, sweaters. Add fun with less expensive trendy things. Take time to try things on. Sorry, I am going on and on...I can't help myself! LOL
ReplyDeleteI am no help at all. All my tees are from Old Navy and Target and all my jeans are from Salvation Army. But when I worked all my clothes were from Ann Taylor.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I'm the last person to ask for fashion advice, my favourite jeans are 'curvy' ones from Gap, which nicely accommodate my rower's thighs ;o)

I too love jeans and jumpers :D
Hope they help!
My favorite jeans are made by iT! Jeans (http://www.itbrand.com/index.html). I have had lots of luck with many of their styles and they are reasonably priced too. I have actually purchased them mostly from Amazon.com (they have free returns on clothing). I also use to be a bit of a J Crew fan when I lived on the East Coast. I still really like their sweaters and T-shirts.
ReplyDeleteI have found some great deals on jeans at Anthropologie. Joe jeans fit the best but they're pricy. You have to check out their sales it's a good place to find some items that are a little more unique. Banana Republic used to have a nice jean but they're always changing the styles so it's hard to know what you'll find there. I also shop JCrew sale for staples like shirts and cardies. Good luck the best thing is to have fun when you're out there!
ReplyDeleteI love love LOVE to shop! I think clothes are so much fun. But my reality check is this....I'm a stay at home Mom. I go to the grocery store, the schools, and I run a few errands around town. I'm pretty sure my boys don't want me coming to their games all gussied out! So, I live in skinny jeans, paired with a cute T-shirt in some fun color or with some cool graphic, finished off with a pair of flip flops or flats (reef are my favorite because they have a narrow fit.) In the winter I throw on a cardigan and some tall flat boots. Super casual.
ReplyDeleteI used to buy crazy expensive denim but then Levi's launched the Curve ID line. It's amazing! They make a skinny jean in three different body types (very curvey, moderately curvey, and minimal curve). They also make a straight leg in all of these body types as well. They have been my favorite for the last 2 years. I haven't bought an expensive pair of jeans in ages (levi's, my husband thanks you!)
I also love the sales at Loft but I'm not afraid to buy staple v-knecks from Target either. Okay, I'm rambling.
I don't have small children but I have never liked clothes shopping - the combination of a well endowed bosom, thick waist and tiny hips are a pain to dress! I am retired now and have lived winter in sweats but I have a range of cotton skirts and tee shirts for summer. I do need to buy some winter clothes next year (I've been saying that for about three years now! LOL) but that's months away -- thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteAll of that to say, I sympathise with you and wish you all the best!
I'm with you, sister. Old Navy and Target. I really like the loft too, and they always send you coupons. Have you seen the blog post (I saw it on Pinterest) about Old Navy/Gap jeans? This girl tried on tons of jeans at Gap and Old Navy and then compared them to a bunch of other jeans. It was really eye-opening, and she sAys ON and Gap sell gateway Mom jeans. Shudder. I can't paste the li k for some reason, but the blog is called Grasping for Objectivity.
ReplyDeletedresses's style and colours combination are lovely. i like it. thanks
ReplyDeleteI LOve shopping! H&M has some great jeans if you have one in your area & find them in your size. Target & Walmart all have nice cardigans at times. Take a peek when you're there for other things. I also find great stuff at TJMaxx occasionally or Ross. All those are very reasonably priced. Then I pass by Gap & Banana Republic a couple times a month to go straight to the clearance rack :) I've found gorgeous things for under 25 over and over.
