<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, a few months back I was feeling very meh about all of my projects and honestly, a little bogged down by sewing in general. Just totally uninspired. <i>For days</i>. I was getting a bit sick of it so I decided to start a baby quilt. I pulled a stack together and waited. Then, one of my closest friends growing up had a baby. Her third, and this time a sweet little girl named Ansley.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE0QmKZ7NBKW96fcvhwS0OiODgAhZeZ_0_-WNxcLrImsoA76Ub36Ozroux9FPhyphenhyphensa4jX0uenXZZiQOI-A8KBiXFaSXgw4SPHROpFrlxtbZBiH4RC6sqLRvFY_KttBFY0U7O9jHtChDcFki/s1600/Ansley's+Swell+by+corn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE0QmKZ7NBKW96fcvhwS0OiODgAhZeZ_0_-WNxcLrImsoA76Ub36Ozroux9FPhyphenhyphensa4jX0uenXZZiQOI-A8KBiXFaSXgw4SPHROpFrlxtbZBiH4RC6sqLRvFY_KttBFY0U7O9jHtChDcFki/s1600/Ansley's+Swell+by+corn.jpg" height="640" width="606" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided that I really needed to get my act together so I fell back on a pattern <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/les-amis-are-swell.html">I've made before</a>, Swell by Camille Roskelley. I enlarged the pattern a bit so that the blocks ended up at 15" instead of 12". Nine blocks later I had a quilt top. Super easy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_FH0OmW03kiK7oVk8v7d1h2Sih9fB0_Z_VOAK_VDyx71_KWkRIDu6MbLhAHBXiUBrFHgzkn6IxSfav9kakax6R5TnuTKNPVk0WeWg0iVTjU2gaQRRI7D5YsyxLu1eNWrFbPYoxJMMyorp/s1600/Ansley's+swell+up+close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_FH0OmW03kiK7oVk8v7d1h2Sih9fB0_Z_VOAK_VDyx71_KWkRIDu6MbLhAHBXiUBrFHgzkn6IxSfav9kakax6R5TnuTKNPVk0WeWg0iVTjU2gaQRRI7D5YsyxLu1eNWrFbPYoxJMMyorp/s1600/Ansley's+swell+up+close.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We were headed to visit my parents the next week so I just decided to wait and quilt it at my mom's. I think I took three quilts but this is the only one I ended up getting quilted. I used this flowery swirl that is pretty fun to do. I finally got it mailed this week, only two months after the baby was born. That's not too bad, right? </div>

<img alt="My farmer/quilt holder got rained out of the fields long enough to help with a few pics. Finally!! #imaginecircle #dogoodstitches" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7312/14038496711_888eb92e7b_o.jpg" width="640" />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Jewel Boxes" is my latest finish for the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/1792352@N20/">Imagine Circle</a> of do.Good Stitches. Back in January I asked our group to make 21" square-in-square blocks, starting with a 6" center block and adding three rounds of 3" strips. We used this palette from <a href="http://design-seeds.com/index.php/home/entry/color-taste">Design Seeds</a> as our color inspiration:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11777816505" title="ColorTaste by Toni, on Flickr"><img alt="ColorTaste" height="399" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5505/11777816505_10be038aae_o.png" width="473" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After I received all the blocks, I simply quartered them, then sewed them back together to make the Bento box-like design. Easy! I had one too many blocks for the front so I incorporated it into the design of the backing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<img alt="And the back... #imaginecircle #dogoodstitches" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2916/14041706865_6dc39ffdff_o.jpg" width="640" /><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I quilted this on my mom's longarm machine and ended up being pretty happy with how it turned out. Most of the time as I'm stitching I think that it looks terrible but after I step away from it for a while it turns out to not bother me as much. Here's a close up of the floral-ish design I was going for:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<img alt="Up close. Last one!! #imaginecircle #dogoodstitches" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5145/14018590966_a88626c3a4_o.jpg" width="640" />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not perfect by any means, but better than it looked while I was stitching. <a href="http://theinboxjaunt.com/2014/02/18/flower-power-a-free-free-motion-quilt-tutorial/">Here is a tutorial</a> for the basic design, though her's look much more like flowers than mine! </div>

<br />
You know how as soon as you find out that a friend is expecting a baby, you immediately start designing a quilt in your head? Maybe that's just me? Anyway, my sweet friend Michonne is expecting a much-anticipated little girl in just a few weeks. I met Michonne, or Meesh as many people know her, through Flickr and have been lucky enough to be in a few different bees with her. She is so friendly and supportive and is always quick to offer a positive comment.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12772590295/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7438/12772590295_b9ec27bedd_c.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I asked the ladies of <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/2126651@N23/">That Stash Bee</a> if they would like to help make a quilt for Michonne's baby, and of course everyone agreed. I was pretty loose on what I was looking for...I shared three color palettes that I liked and just requested stars, any size, with a low-volume background. I knew that my talented friends would send some fabulous blocks, but I'll be honest..after the first half of the blocks arrived, I was a little nervous that I would wreck everyone's work when I started puzzling them together. But I shouldn't have worried. My beemates sent such awesome blocks that they look fabulous together! I did have to shrink two of them so I hope those ladies don't mind!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was so happy to discover that I had enough of these light pink jewels by Lizzy House to use for the binding. I think they go really well with the low-volume girliness of the quilt. I was also really excited to find this Khristian Howell print for the backing. I used some of it in <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2012/10/jills-quilt.html">Jill's quilt</a> and thought it would be fun to use it for Michonne's baby's quilt, too. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The online quilting community is such a fun and inviting place. I have made some really awesome friends and am so grateful for my That Stash Bee ladies for their help on this quilt. I absolutely cannot wait to see Meesh's little Cupcake all stretched out on her new quilt!</div>

I've been making some good progress lately and thought I would share a few pics.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12483104865/" title="Crown of Thorns top complete! by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Crown of Thorns top complete!" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7308/12483104865_f4fcb099da_c.jpg" height="640" width="604" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I added a few more blocks to my Crown of Thorns quilt and finished the top yesterday morning. The lovely ladies from That Stash Bee helped me with this one, and I love it! Now to decide on a backing. I'm also trying to decide if I want to quilt this on my machine or wait and take it to my mom's and use her longarm. It is about 75" square, so I'm not really looking forward to wrangling it through mine. But, I don't think we are going back to Iowa until this summer and I don't want to wait that long, either. What a problem to have, right?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12483719334/" title="Christmas Spiderweb in progress by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Christmas Spiderweb in progress" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3790/12483719334_28fc58fd35_c.jpg" height="800" width="656" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The spiderweb blocks that I chose for my month in Always Bee Learning have been rolling in and surprisingly, I have done a pretty good job at keeping up on this one. This is what I've gotten so far and I'm still waiting on three more people. I love this Riley Blake La Creme Swiss Dot that I am using for the background. My plan is to add another row or two of the spiderweb blocks, then put this panel off-center and add more of the dots on either side. Sound good?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12483710965/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2835/12483710965_e2002316ef_c.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also finished the quilting on my second<a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/09/star-flare-simple-tutorial.html"> Star Flare</a>. It is actually hanging upstairs in the playroom right now, without binding. I didn't want to just fold it back up while I waited to bind it, so I thought the playroom could use a little brightening. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now I've got stacks pulled for a friend's gender-neutral baby quilt and another custom order all while waiting for blocks to finish two more quilts. I guess I like to keep things moving!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12074069053/" title="Perfect timing! <div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's finally done! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Modern Blocks Bee was the first online quilting bee that I ever joined. It was based on the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Blocks-Quilt-Favorite-Designers/dp/1607054450">Modern Blocks: 99 Quilt Blocks from Your Favorite Designers</a>, with each member of our bee choosing a block from the book for everyone else to make and send back to them. I chose Lara Finlayson's block Diamond Ripples way back in November 2012. I sent each member a pack of blue, green, and yellow scraps along with Kona Snow and hoped for the best. I honestly hadn't thought too much about the block, I just needed something that was easy and had simple cutting instructions! We were in the process of moving at the time, along with working on our harvest, all of course with four small kids so simple was key!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12160067963/" title="Diamond Ripples by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Diamond Ripples" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3778/12160067963_9297e2a531_c.jpg" height="640" width="615" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Boy, am I glad I chose this block! It really does make an interesting design when multiple blocks are put together. As my friend and bee-mate<a href="http://aquilterstable.blogspot.com/"> Deb </a>said in a Flickr comment, "I really underestimated this block!" and I couldn't agree more! I was quite indecisive about the quilting, but ended up choosing to quilt 1/4" apart in the white spaces and left the colorful parts unquilted. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12190072233/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7389/12190072233_77d9f4deb7_c.jpg" height="640" width="480" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the backing I just used a few blue prints from my stash. I thought that having a colorful binding on the quilt would be a little distracting so instead I made my first faced binding using<a href="http://thesillyboodilly.blogspot.com/2012/09/tutorial-super-duper-easy-way-to-face.html"> this tutorial</a> from Victoria of SillyBooDilly. It was really easy, but since you have to hand-stitch the facing to the quilt it took me nearly a week to finish it. There is a good reason I machine stitch my bindings! Now the quilt is hanging upstairs adding a little color to the kids' playroom.</div>

How about a little randomness today?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12207800366/" title="IG says I made this block 40 weeks ago. Finally found its home as a completely unnecessary pillow in Jill's room. by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="IG says I made this block 40 weeks ago. <div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyone remember this block? I made a few odd-sized quilt-as-you Log Cabin blocks last year but never really did anything with them. So yesterday I was doing a little rearranging in my sewing area and came across them again. Rather than find another place to store them, I decided it would be really easy to just turn this one into a pillow. It was an 18" block and I knew that I had a few of that sized pillow forms laying around, so I cut out a few backing pieces and got it done. Check! Now Jill has a fun pillow to brighten up the ugly brown recliner in her room.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12224505293/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5491/12224505293_835a2dc02e_c.jpg" height="640" width="544" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few nights ago I finally decided to start another cross-stitch project. I made a semi-valiant effort at the Woodland Sampler last year but only made it to April. That one was supposed to be stitched on linen, and while I really like the look of it, my eyes do not appreciate stitching into that tiny weave. Aida cloth is much easier! When I saw that Corey was doing a sew-along for her<a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/2014/01/quilty-stitches-sampler-along-block-1/"> Quilty Stitches pattern</a> I jumped in. I'm really not sure how often she is posting each new block, but so far I'm ahead of schedule which is unusual with my stitching projects! I started stitching the sashing last night and it looks like I wasn't paying very good attention. My stitches are pretty sloppy! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12224726104/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7449/12224726104_f6c890eca1_c.jpg" height="480" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yesterday afternoon when Wyatt came home from school he was telling me about how they were supposed to have melted down their old crayons and made new ones but ran out of time. He really wanted to do it, so I helped him peel off those dang wrappers and let him pick out a couple of my cookie cutters to use. Well, someone got a little distracted after she put them in the oven and this is what happened! I had to open the door and windows in the kitchen to let some of the hot crayon smell escape!</div>

The dGS Circle that I am in sends our quilts to an organization called <a href="http://www.threadinghope.com/">Threading Hope</a> which then distributes them to families in under-developed countries. We were just informed that our 2013 quilts were taken to Costa Rica, and I was so excited to see a picture of our <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/01/gathered-geese.html">Gathered Geese</a> quilt as it was given to it's recipient. I love seeing pictures of quilts in action! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I have been playing with my Chicopee scraps. Not sure where this project is headed, but it has been fun to just sit and sew! I have been keeping the scraps from certain projects segregated from my other scraps for a while, but I want to use that space for something else. So I've decided to either make something new or into the regular scraps they go! As it stands, I need a new scrap system anyway. My bags are overflowing! Which really, isn't as dire as it sounds, since my largest bag is only a gallon-sized ziplock. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Good morning, friends!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Can I tell you how much I love this quilt? That may not be the most modest thing to say, but seriously, it's one of my favorites. Which is great, because I made it for one of my favorite people. As soon as I get the nerve to venture out into this arctic weather, this baby will be shipped off to Tennessee to live with my best friend from high school. One day she asked me on IG what I did with all the quilts I make. When I told her that I end up giving most of them away, she jokingly suggested that I send one her way. That was all the push I needed to start a quilt for my sweet friend!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12159973393/" title="Chicopee Crosses, close by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Chicopee Crosses, close" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5527/12159973393_5064dab5c2_c.jpg" height="800" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had been itching to use my leftover Chicopee that I had stashed away after making <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/05/chicopee-herringbone-bqf-spring-2013.html">this quilt </a>and settled on the design after being inspired by<a href="http://fussycut.blogspot.com/2013/07/vintage-flowers.html"> this quilt</a> by Angela of Fussy Cut. I used Essex linen in Natural for the crosses. I believe my blocks were 9.5". The block pattern is pretty easy to figure out, but if you would like a tutorial, Kelly from KelbySews has <a href="http://kelbysews.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-crossing-easy-quilt-tutorial.html">one for a 14" block</a>. Interestingly enough, Kelly was inspired by my quilt after seeing it on Pinterest and made one very similar. Isn't it funny how things work out? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSmhKhLaaiqOHfjY6XOJbUklKFrKhZfUqqZendRCOxoBmbBQvbvXSckNMKfIJeYNyEOhMRUjWI10TxaEczpy5NjpOFxzy54uh_mUTRZGfmGH-TwrKBdQQ3rndY9NnXzyHU0HuQu6USuice/s1600/chicopee+backing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSmhKhLaaiqOHfjY6XOJbUklKFrKhZfUqqZendRCOxoBmbBQvbvXSckNMKfIJeYNyEOhMRUjWI10TxaEczpy5NjpOFxzy54uh_mUTRZGfmGH-TwrKBdQQ3rndY9NnXzyHU0HuQu6USuice/s1600/chicopee+backing.jpg" height="640" width="544" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The quilting was done on my mom's longarm in the swirly loop design that seems to be the only pattern I do. For the backing, I used a strip of the paisley print and added Kona Pepper to bring it up to size. The binding is either Alexander Henry's Heath in black or Timeless Treasure's Sketch in black. I can honestly never remember which is which!<br />
<br />
I really wish I could see the look on my friend's face when she opens this. She has a much more sophisticated style than I do so I hope she likes it! </div>

I'm trying to make an effort to clear out some of my WIPs. My shelves are looking messy and frankly, I just don't like having unfinished projects laying around! Here's what I'm trying to work on this week:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12074069053/" title="Perfect timing! Finished my stitching just as Max was walking down the stairs from his nap. by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Perfect timing! <div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yesterday I finally sat down and quilted my Diamond Ripples. This quilt started back in 2012 with my month in the Modern Blocks Bee. I'd say it's about time this one was finished! I'm stitching on a facing instead of binding, so that's a new experience for me. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9799621795/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5448/9799621795_a50485ec8b_c.jpg" height="640" width="579" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This one is next on the list. I actually basted it last summer/fall sometime, then rolled it up and put it away. I un-basted it to take to my mom's but never had time to quilt it while we were there. So now it is sitting at the end of my hallway, quietly shaming me. Hope to re-baste it during nap time today.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12086383595/" title="That's a bright one. by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="That's a bright one." src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2867/12086383595_7357103015.jpg" height="500" width="500" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If the kids sleep well, I might even get this one basted, too! This is an awful picture of it, but if I remember correctly that outermost color is actually Kona Cactus. It's a bright one.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/12086566563/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5483/12086566563_17c6357505_c.jpg" height="640" width="610" /> </a><br />
<br />
I've gotten all of my Crown of Thorns blocks back from my That Stash Bee ladies so I've been playing around a little with the layout. I still need to make a couple more. I've also been thinking of setting them on point, but I'm really not sure what I would do in the setting triangles. Thoughts? <br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11782475664/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7411/11782475664_d335f33b11_c.jpg" height="800" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've also been working on a baby quilt for a friend. It is a collaborative effort, so I'm waiting for a couple more blocks to arrive then I can start putting them all together. I'm excited about this one! I didn't specify a block size, just asked for stars, so it should be fun puzzling them all together! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11953659164/" title="And another. #castleblock by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="And another. #castleblock" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3769/11953659164_ecb430272e.jpg" height="500" width="500" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And just for fun, I made another Castle Block. Still no set plan for these, but I'm having a great time choosing fabrics for each block. </div>

A few months ago I started another quilt for Jill. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, when I started it I actually didn't have a plan for it. I just didn't like seeing my pretty stack of Briar Rose (and coordinating solids) from <a href="http://www.westwoodacresfabric.com/">Amanda's shop</a> just sitting on my shelf. I'm not a hoarder.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Jill's Briar Rose quilt" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3678/11999611094_21e7c2cf57_c.jpg" height="800" width="646" /> </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It didn't take me long to decide that some kind of square-in-square block was what I wanted to use, and since I had just made some <a href="http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?p=561">Lemon Squares blocks</a> for a bee-mate I went ahead and used a slightly modified version of that pattern for Jill's quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11999435304/" title="Jill's Briar Rose Quilt by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Jill's Briar Rose Quilt" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5537/11999435304_7219f6f8fd_c.jpg" height="800" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I actually bought this pink Minkee when I was pregnant with Jill with the intention of making her something with it before she was born. Obviously that didn't happen, but at the same time I also bought that pretty yellow gingham I used for the binding. I did get a crib sheet made out of it before Jill was born so I wasn't a total slacker. I think the gingham looks perfect here with the sweet Briar Rose prints. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11999933896/" title="Jill's Briar Rose Quilt by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Jill's Briar Rose Quilt" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2893/11999933896_74cdacac61_c.jpg" height="800" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is another quilt that I quilted on my mom's longarm while there for Thanksgiving. I'm actually really happy with my quilting on this one, except for the way that darn Minkee was pulled through with the stitches. I use a Microtex needle on my home machine when I quilt with Minkee and rarely have that issue. I used the thinnest needle mom had but it wasn't enough I guess. It really doesn't bother me that much, and I'm hoping that maybe after it goes through the wash it will settle back in a bit. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The quilt finishes at roughly 48" square. A good size for Jill to use in her crib and for the next couple years. I did use a layer of white flannel as batting in this one so it will definitely keep my sweet girl warm! </div>

When I saw the <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/2014/01/super-size-castle-block/">Super-Size Castle Block tutorial</a> on Sew, Mama, Sew the other day I knew I had to make it. A lot of times, I pin quilt ideas and think that I want to make them in the near future, but never has one block stood out to me so much and practically screamed for me to make it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11912978464/" title="Super-size Castle block by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Super-size Castle block" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5531/11912978464_fb7bb23dda_c.jpg" height="640" width="564" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I am a huge fan of Amy Gunson who writes at <a href="http://badskirt.blogspot.com/">Badskirt</a>. She is very deliberate in her fabric choices and always makes such perfect projects. She did an excellent job on this tutorial as well. I've sewn Y-seams before but never anything to this extent and I truly enjoyed it. I know lots of people are nervous about tackling projects with Y-seams but really, once it clicks with you they are so simple.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11912756325/" title="Super-Size Castle Block 1 by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Super-Size Castle Block 1" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7403/11912756325_aed4b5917d_c.jpg" height="640" width="588" /></a>
</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So far I have only made these two blocks but I intend to make many more! I haven't added the corner triangles to these because I just can't decide what I want to do there yet. Maybe some type of Essex linen or one of those new <a href="http://storefront.unitednotions.com/storefrontCommerce/itemDetail.do?item-id=356509&order-quantity=1&customer-item=1864.17061&order-uom=&warehouse-id=6&item-number=1864.17061">Mochi Dots</a>?<br />
<br />
What are you working on today? </div>

Hey there! Happy New Year! Only what, about 10 days late? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With all the snow and freezing temps here lately our Christmas Break was extended by an extra week. I've actually really enjoyed it, but it is definitely time to get back on some kind of schedule. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since we've really only left the house twice in the last week I've been able to get my January Bee blocks done...and even mailed! I'm usually pretty good about getting them done quickly, but always seem to wait too long on the mailing part. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnp3O4WZu0p2KuYwUSJjc9650LxfUZUZYnNmJXczMuns4qHufaWfh-5OiBlqhHCoaq2XuEceAsEYwuN8gnJZ4poNksqJNTVntdRwrKkQT4Y_WziAiT1lcoCfy2-a9fkhUdWc13nAHBwO3-/s1600/Kaleidoscope+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnp3O4WZu0p2KuYwUSJjc9650LxfUZUZYnNmJXczMuns4qHufaWfh-5OiBlqhHCoaq2XuEceAsEYwuN8gnJZ4poNksqJNTVntdRwrKkQT4Y_WziAiT1lcoCfy2-a9fkhUdWc13nAHBwO3-/s1600/Kaleidoscope+blocks.jpg" height="320" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In That Stash Bee, <a href="http://mamalovequilts.blogspot.com/">Nicole</a> asked us to make Kaleidoscope blocks in her favorite color scheme of oranges, pinks, and a touch of red. Isn't she going to have an awesome quilt?<a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/K/KaleidoscopeBlock.html"> The tutorial </a>can be found at Quilter's Cache and is an easy paper-pieced pattern. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
We had an easy block this month in Bee{Purposeful} making a yellow and grey <a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/2014/01/not-quite-a-sawtooth-star-block-tutorial/">Not Quite Sawtooth Star </a>using Corey's tutorial. Her mom is actually the quilter this month and has a fun medallion-style quilt in mind. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11823037754/" title="January's #alwaysbeelearning block. So much more fun to make than I was expecting! by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="January's #alwaysbeelearning block. So much more fun to make than I was expecting!" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5532/11823037754_90dbcf9235.jpg" height="500" width="500" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
January is my month in Always Bee Learning. My goal this year is to have Christmas quilts on all the kids' beds by December 1st, so I've asked my ladies to make Spiderweb blocks using<a href="http://alamodefabric.blogspot.com/2010/06/spider-web-quilt-block-tutorial.html"> this tutorial </a>by Heather of A la Mode. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed making these blocks. Can't say that I enjoyed cutting the strips to send to everyone, but I'll definitely appreciate their help! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11777816505/" title="ColorTaste by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="ColorTaste" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5505/11777816505_c3372412f1.jpg" height="399" width="473" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also agreed to take January in our do.Good Stitches circle. I always have so many ideas but then when it rolls around to my month as quilter none of them seem quite right. Anyway, I chose this beautiful "Color Taste" palette from <a href="http://design-seeds.com/index.php/home/entry/color-taste">Design-Seeds </a>as inspiration and asked everyone to make one 21" Square-in-Square block. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbFXPLhHstcf4GAzMYwT9j3HZePyLt0h1qKpu0-rKCL9xjsZ_UFjoUvBsKjKii0uuPZnlpVaiDiPtYs-lp0Abq92rtlqXcHE3rH0djrX7wu5KXIQ__PXOjCVNQ-JlUD8_3HGEFmX6RH41V/s1600/January+dGS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbFXPLhHstcf4GAzMYwT9j3HZePyLt0h1qKpu0-rKCL9xjsZ_UFjoUvBsKjKii0uuPZnlpVaiDiPtYs-lp0Abq92rtlqXcHE3rH0djrX7wu5KXIQ__PXOjCVNQ-JlUD8_3HGEFmX6RH41V/s1600/January+dGS.jpg" height="320" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not really even sure what the next step is with these blocks. I've always wanted to make a Bento Box style quilt so I may take that route, or a quartered Log Cabin, or maybe even something like Erica's <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2013/06/simply-style-stacked-squares-quilt.html">Stacked Squares</a>. Who knows?!?</div>

<br />
Back at the beginning of November, when I was telling the ladies in That Stash Bee what I wanted them to make for my month, I said that there was a chance I would be using those blocks to make a quilt for my mother-in-law. Well, after seeing a few of the blocks they made I knew that I wouldn't be giving that quilt away. So instead she'll be getting this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSZR2-Rn39VuASOe_A-EAj7q0W34e39HrOHiVUusIzQ2Pqg33Fnns9rn9j7ioqIFIE4PWYzRTl2e6QctlSrZNf1zDBDdIhBZV5tSufZpRUj8ZKKjOE5gyoFBNAse64qS3U9_Tmj2zJSqcw/s1600/blue-green+crosses+close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSZR2-Rn39VuASOe_A-EAj7q0W34e39HrOHiVUusIzQ2Pqg33Fnns9rn9j7ioqIFIE4PWYzRTl2e6QctlSrZNf1zDBDdIhBZV5tSufZpRUj8ZKKjOE5gyoFBNAse64qS3U9_Tmj2zJSqcw/s640/blue-green+crosses+close.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I was very much inspired by <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2011/07/quilt-wind.html">this quilt</a> by Allison of Cluck, Cluck, Sew. I feel like I say that a lot. She really does make some beautiful quilts! To make the blocks, I just used four 3.5" squares of Kona White, two 3.5" squares of my print, and one 3.5"x9.5" rectangle of my print. After laying out the blocks how I wanted them, I added a 3.5"x9.5" rectangle of Kona White between the blocks where it was needed to offset the rows. The finished quilt is roughly 63" square. My MIL is fairly short so I figure that's a good lap size quilt for her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM7alTGXtln5FbR7UMRkHvbGNeSr3Ye2zpL202mbHCr0mV7-YlxhMqd2ZRIbYU-5oOhZQQYVrM-O1ZOFUkZzep_LUIBmq5AAxP44tKcGjBE16-nYiGGtMke1hz-C4rv5FbLWazOyDNQ2Y1/s1600/blue-green+crosses+quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM7alTGXtln5FbR7UMRkHvbGNeSr3Ye2zpL202mbHCr0mV7-YlxhMqd2ZRIbYU-5oOhZQQYVrM-O1ZOFUkZzep_LUIBmq5AAxP44tKcGjBE16-nYiGGtMke1hz-C4rv5FbLWazOyDNQ2Y1/s640/blue-green+crosses+quilting.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to make this quilt with a flannel backing so this grey herringbone sheet from Target was perfect. This is another one that I took to my mom's to quilt and as you can see I didn't do the most perfect job on the quilting, especially as I got close to the edge. But, it's good enough for me. I used a stripey Denise Schmidt binding that I've had in my stash for a couple of years and was seriously doubting that I would ever find a use for it. Glad I finally did!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
October was my month again as quilter for the Imagine Circle of do.Good Stitches. I was inspired to choose the Pineapple Blossom block after seeing my friend Catherine's <a href="http://sewonderfulife.blogspot.com/2013/09/fal-finish-at-last.html">beautiful quilt</a> that she made with the help of her Brit Bee ladies.<br />
<br />
We used <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.co.uk/2005/06/pineapple-blossom.html">this tutorial</a> from Quiltville to make the blocks, using the requirements for a 12" block and colors in a range of pinks, corals, salmon, golds, and apricots along with some low-volume prints. I have to say that I really love how this quilt turned out!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11402930623/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2823/11402930623_2efaeda514_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sorry for the bad picture of the backing, but Rog and I ran outside really quickly yesterday when we got home from church to snap a couple pics. The wind was blowing and I was too cold to worry about waiting for the perfect shot! The blocks we used yielded a few scrap HSTs so some of the ladies sent them along with their blocks. I had just enough to make this strip down the back, which in turn was just wide enough to allow me to not have to piece any more of the backing. Serendipity.<br />
<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/11403080554/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2819/11403080554_55bc52b3ea_c.jpg" width="600" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I took this with me to Iowa over Thanksgiving break so I could quilt it on my mom's long arm. So much quicker than trying to do it on my machine. I'm still not that great at it, but these loopy swirls are pretty easy and generally look good even when they're a little sloppy! I was also really glad to finally use that Meadowsweet print for something. I've had it forever but just never seem to find the right project for it, until I used it for the binding. And look, someone even used it in their block, too. I hadn't noticed that until I saw this picture.<br />
<br />
Now I just need to sit down and stitch our label on, then send this beauty off to <a href="http://www.threadinghope.com/">Threading Hope</a>, the charity of choice for our circle. </div>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10874240675/" title="Imagine Circle Swap by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Imagine Circle Swap" height="800" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2869/10874240675_5748c36422_c.jpg" width="600" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Some of the ladies in our do.Good Stitches circle decided to do a swap for fun and to try to get to know each other a little better. One of the items that my partner requested was a pillow so of course that is what I chose. I love making pillow covers. It is so fun to do a block or technique that you've been wanting to try, but don't really want to commit to a larger project. Plus, I'm a big fan of functional projects and who can't use a few more pillows in their life?<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10875189163/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7401/10875189163_3ff546f11d_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think that paper-pieced blocks are great for pillows. They make such striking designs but are fairly time-consuming so I'm not really tempted to make a quilt with them. The blocks I used are called<a href="http://quiltjane.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/desperate-housewifes-quilt-week-49-star.html"> Star Jumps </a>and were a part of the <a href="http://quiltjane.blogspot.com.au/p/the-desperate-housewifes-quilt.html">Desperate Housewives series</a> by Quilt Jane. The pillow finishes at about 16".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10884308803/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7343/10884308803_da31540c08_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had a bit of a fail while making the back for the pillow, though. I had a FQ of this lovely print and knew it would be perfect for the back. I cut the two panels I needed, only to realize that I had cut them a little too large. So I just whacked some off and hemmed. I didn't realize my mistake until I went to pin them to the front and couldn't line up the pattern. So, hopefully the mismatched design won't annoy her too much! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have seen some awesome projects on IG and Flickr that the other ladies in my circle are making, so I can't wait to see what ends up in my mailbox!</div>

I just have one more bee block to make for 2013, since all bees but my dGS circle take a break in December. I really do enjoy making bee blocks and am always a little excited when a new month rolls around so I can find out what we'll be making. It's highly probable that I need to get out more... </div>

A few months ago, Corey of<a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/"> Little Miss Shabby</a> asked for volunteers to join a new bee that she was starting called Bee{Purposeful}. Corey's church is very active in missionary work and she was looking for a group of sewists to help make quilts that would be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting the missions program. The group is set up in a similar way as do.Good Stitches in that half of us are "quilters" who each have a month to design, make blocks, and finish the quilt while the other half of the group are "stitchers" who send blocks to the quilters. </div>

We started in August, with a Camille Roskelley-inspired Scrappy Trip Around the World. <a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/">Corey </a>was the quilter that month and did a fabulous job designing our first quilt!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10699986455/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3675/10699986455_69493db60e_c.jpg" width="600" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
September was my month and if you'll remember I chose the <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/skinny-churn-dash-and-variations.html">Skinny Churn Dash Block.</a> It is always a lot of fun to get bee blocks in the mail so in no time I had the quilt top sewn together. Sorry for the super-bright pictures, but the only chance I've had to take pics lately was after church on Sunday and it was very sunny! But, an exceptionally pretty day so I'm not complaining!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10700256723/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3788/10700256723_5ee6e2f2cf_c.jpg" width="600" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I was very indecisive about how I wanted to quilt this, but I eventually settled on somewhat of an orange-peel design. As luck would have it, the lid for my 12" skillet was a perfect template for marking my lines!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10724535066/" title="Who knew a 12" skillet lid would be so handy? by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Who knew a 12" skillet lid would be so handy?" height="500" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5512/10724535066_0f1d6567e9.jpg" width="500" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I just used my walking foot for the quilting and it was so easy. I'll definitely be doing it this way again!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10700068086/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5518/10700068086_a4f8179d7a_c.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the backing I chose this fun print but for the life of me I cannot remember what it is! I know that I bought it in the sale section at <a href="http://www.pinkcastlefabrics.com/">Pink Castle</a> a few months ago because it had many of the same colors that I had requested for the quilt, but other than that I'm at a loss. I hand-stitched the binding this time and as usual, it took forever! I kind of enjoy stitching it on by hand, but it seriously takes me about 2 weeks to finish a quilt that way, so I generally go with my machine. The binding is Kona Ice Frappe which is a pretty minty-aqua. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this concludes the quilt show for the week! I think that I am finally caught up in showing my finished quilts, and you probably won't be seeing any more this year! I've got one more to finish for dGS once I get everyone's blocks but that's it. I'm trying my best to round up all of my quilt tops and those in progress so I can take them to my mom's at Thanksgiving and give her longarm a workout. Doesn't that sound fun?</div>

This post brought to you by the end of Daylight Savings Time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Seriously, I think there is something in the air this time of year that makes my normally early-rising kids get up even earlier! Forget that "extra" hour of sleep they were supposed to get this weekend, 4am is apparently when all the cool kids wake up! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, onto the quilt...</div>

<br />
A couple of months ago, a friend from college contacted me about a friend of hers who was looking for a quilt for her young daughter. Their family breeds Jersey cattle and the little girl loves cows and horses, so the mother was looking for a Jersey cow/horse quilt. I was excited to help, but also a little nervous about finding any fabric with Jersey cows on it. Most of the cows that are on fabric are Holsteins, you know, the black and white spotted ones? Luckily, I was able to find an eBay seller that seems to specialize in various animal breeds printed on Kona cotton squares and she had Jerseys.<br />
<br />
After we agreed on the Jersey fabric, I encouraged my new friend Bec to look at my <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/tonilovelady/quilty-inspiration/">Pinterest board</a> for inspiration as to the design and color scheme she wanted for her daughter's quilt. She picked out two very pretty quilts, <a href="http://thesewingchick.blogspot.com/2013/07/finished-quilt-happy-baby-in-navy-lime.html">this one</a> for the pattern and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/108949602/quilt-lap-baby-the-ladies-stitching-club?ref=v1_other_2">this one</a> for the colors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh61qkIyVWlXowl-SxghGVPLlyV_NU9-Nv7Erf9lgWj2hU-VP5iwNsrw1i8IapIH5vERwOiNhC-UjdmjGtdHEiCIDb7klKiUbksxWDzUAk9juTUNRxf88elnQgycbkEh3cEDQcVWBDmQA8s/s1600/jerseys2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh61qkIyVWlXowl-SxghGVPLlyV_NU9-Nv7Erf9lgWj2hU-VP5iwNsrw1i8IapIH5vERwOiNhC-UjdmjGtdHEiCIDb7klKiUbksxWDzUAk9juTUNRxf88elnQgycbkEh3cEDQcVWBDmQA8s/s640/jerseys2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Many of the prints in the quilt are from the <a href="http://oliverands.com/blog/2012/03/introducing-the-ladies-stitching-club-2.html">Ladies Stitching Club</a> line by Liesl Gibson. The line came out in 2012, but I was able to find quite a few of the prints at <a href="http://stores.burgundybuttons.com/-strse-Fabric-Collections-dsh-Moda-cln-Ladies-Stitching-Club/Categories.bok">Burgundy Buttons</a>. After they arrived, I found some coordinating prints in my stash and got to work. Bec also picked out a cute horse print by Michael Miller to use on the back of the quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2CYFwFEeeNdi0sRpn6qjVfqyg5zA_HbUTECu5WJ5CxGxCPJY4TDaOzHxWhHXcvxnploCIPt-cdTg9Y8rexsobE2EY1lt6PD6gtCgAdhnRvFs1XkpW5xT2ugVTCqvQc5lvoGVxUml-6fPd/s1600/jerseys+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2CYFwFEeeNdi0sRpn6qjVfqyg5zA_HbUTECu5WJ5CxGxCPJY4TDaOzHxWhHXcvxnploCIPt-cdTg9Y8rexsobE2EY1lt6PD6gtCgAdhnRvFs1XkpW5xT2ugVTCqvQc5lvoGVxUml-6fPd/s640/jerseys+back.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I kept the quilting simple with lines 1/4" from the seams. I really like the colors in this striped print that I used for the binding! The quilt measures 60"x75", a great size for its intended use.<br />
<br />
I love the challenge of a custom quilt order, and am so pleased with how this one turned out! I can't wait to see pictures of little Matilda opening it at Christmas! </div>

About 6 weeks ago I had the overwhelming urge to make a Halloween quilt. Never mind that my parents were visiting that weekend and half my family was sick including myself. It just needed to be done. So I browsed around a bit and found a few Halloween quilts that I loved, like <a href="http://www.moderncozy.com/2013/09/finish-it-up-friday-halloween-quilt-top.html">this St. Louis 16-patch</a> by Darcy at Modern Cozy and this<a href="http://modernhandcraft.com/2013/09/spooktacular-quilt-top-mini-tutorial/"> Spooktacular plus quilt </a>by Nicole at Modern Handcraft. But honestly, as simple and fun as these designs were, my stuffy head needed something even easier.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhjDR5n0Lje219pBF5_RFjUQTwzg_5UmT46wS57op6zoK-AuGWizW6u_mEv2Oe8eh2d_Futjd0eja3D3CqXPTQCC_yf9LjjQQDv8Dzjvl3xPXjQrxXkJIRJyNKJmuGjLZOyhhZtze6urqj/s1600/halloween+quilt+on+deck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhjDR5n0Lje219pBF5_RFjUQTwzg_5UmT46wS57op6zoK-AuGWizW6u_mEv2Oe8eh2d_Futjd0eja3D3CqXPTQCC_yf9LjjQQDv8Dzjvl3xPXjQrxXkJIRJyNKJmuGjLZOyhhZtze6urqj/s640/halloween+quilt+on+deck.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I found the answer at Cluck, Cluck, Sew. I'm pretty sure Allison is one of my favorite quilters so it really isn't surprising that it was her <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/10/finished-halloween-quilt.html">Halloween quilt </a>that I wanted to copy. I love the wonky strips in her design but even that was too much for me, so I made mine straight. Seriously, easiest quilt top I've ever made. I just grabbed a variety of black, white/black, and orange prints and started cutting strips. If I remember correctly, they are all 9" long by various widths. I just threw them all in a bowl and started sewing them in pairs, then in pairs of pairs, and so on. I didn't even worry about making the final columns the same length, just got within 6" of each other and sewed them together to complete the top. I did cut one column in half to add a little interest, but that's it. So quick and easy and full of fun prints. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNQBnwn1UiNl6Gea5XNcsIire3bvc-E9qIgYZL0WNFPVL_-rPUDVFuqTpz2xupQdPLAODjs2F9ziz6TgXyF88XgaeXcbL8m68_sjeCUipoWJm1neKFe0OUXiR5nkenpOJNo-UseaMRv_2Y/s1600/halloween+quilt+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNQBnwn1UiNl6Gea5XNcsIire3bvc-E9qIgYZL0WNFPVL_-rPUDVFuqTpz2xupQdPLAODjs2F9ziz6TgXyF88XgaeXcbL8m68_sjeCUipoWJm1neKFe0OUXiR5nkenpOJNo-UseaMRv_2Y/s640/halloween+quilt+back.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I knew that I wanted this to be a good quilt for snuggling, so a flannel back was obviously needed. I had actually folded the top and put it away, thinking that I would browse the sales sections for a while until I found a good deal. Believe it or not, I found a great deal on a set of queen-size flannel sheets at Sam's that matched the quilt fairly well. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10590590256/" title="Halloween quilt on porch by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Halloween quilt on porch" height="640" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5547/10590590256_05a5517219_c.jpg" width="628" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I quilted it with a random herringbone, but would have loved to quilt spiderwebs all over it. Maybe on the next one! The quilt finished at about 68" x 76", a perfect size for snuggling around a campfire. </div>

Well, sort of my latest. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not my most recent finish, but the one I had time to finally take pictures of yesterday evening. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx22CyVHy1IJ23zkm0UTbBG47qQIuHUwqfpRdRf-5jZS_BsUj8qcKX_wlvjqs9JiE-smjWztXon8PR1Wl1TbNXgBqQIJlU2ElBODCExR9LBg8T7xMegGPAzYzCmG3ksM_h1tib2g7FuyHE/s1600/improv+on+barn+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx22CyVHy1IJ23zkm0UTbBG47qQIuHUwqfpRdRf-5jZS_BsUj8qcKX_wlvjqs9JiE-smjWztXon8PR1Wl1TbNXgBqQIJlU2ElBODCExR9LBg8T7xMegGPAzYzCmG3ksM_h1tib2g7FuyHE/s640/improv+on+barn+2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This quilt was purely inspired by a heap of scraps sitting on my table. I was making an attempt to work on some QAYG Log Cabin blocks that were on <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/07/fal-plans-for-q3.html">last quarter's FAL list </a>and was becoming frustrated by them. It seems that when I want to make things wonky, it doesn't work, but when I really am trying for straight and accurate piecing, the wonk appears. So, I got rid of that plan and just started sewing scraps together. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu6EWeFUOwyDsE38FVZUT4QoqOSQ0JTTiuzZOYkSBbH5HmFMfHTQXe3bUaW4egMh0DEF8cIsn7Pai5IGhDa3tEl4ek9R0r9mGk9XOQHQqydriaPbO6u7Dw231e3ZU2dv7TwLpr7SshPA9L/s1600/improv+on+ground.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu6EWeFUOwyDsE38FVZUT4QoqOSQ0JTTiuzZOYkSBbH5HmFMfHTQXe3bUaW4egMh0DEF8cIsn7Pai5IGhDa3tEl4ek9R0r9mGk9XOQHQqydriaPbO6u7Dw231e3ZU2dv7TwLpr7SshPA9L/s640/improv+on+ground.jpg" width="484" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this is what happened. It was very fun to make, one of those projects that you just keep working on, excited to see where it goes.<br />
<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB2ITuzU-I3pa7DrDsZdFtQt7p_Gz3gXXo5S26wF49aBtSnohG4sraPB6oM6I3W7W-Bf_Gj11-FHAt4bR-k1SIex-wekACBGGCHGs76njQ8igy5gnofbyafxVGI_B0nMRBJ2F5TVpuhrCI/s1600/improv+by+tree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB2ITuzU-I3pa7DrDsZdFtQt7p_Gz3gXXo5S26wF49aBtSnohG4sraPB6oM6I3W7W-Bf_Gj11-FHAt4bR-k1SIex-wekACBGGCHGs76njQ8igy5gnofbyafxVGI_B0nMRBJ2F5TVpuhrCI/s640/improv+by+tree.jpg" width="552" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not sure where this color scheme originated for me, either in those QAYG blocks mentioned above, or <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/06/imagination-squared.html">this quilt</a> the Imagine Circle worked on earlier this year. Either way, I'm still not tired of it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisyvwaE4gSvNmg58mgX_QFP1gsm2-ikSwylch1QgYavcEd-0sP0f36rVlKAnC238Jv792Z-TNZoCZcrtO8fKlEDqD81NhsRmcjWjfhvsptwX6lK3DP_aSQ8cwNDbBODJTwpBTtGM5p3VO5/s1600/improv+with+back.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisyvwaE4gSvNmg58mgX_QFP1gsm2-ikSwylch1QgYavcEd-0sP0f36rVlKAnC238Jv792Z-TNZoCZcrtO8fKlEDqD81NhsRmcjWjfhvsptwX6lK3DP_aSQ8cwNDbBODJTwpBTtGM5p3VO5/s640/improv+with+back.jpg" width="480" /></a><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the backing I used this cute mushroom print from Aneela Hoey's A Walk in the Woods line. I thought it was a nice contrast to the crazy front and as a bonus, I had enough that I didn't have to piece the backing. The binding is mostly the dark grey text print from Sweetwater's Hometown line with a little piece of FMF thrown in. And of course, the quilting is random wavy lines. Surprised? I'll have you know that I've finished three quilts since this one and none of them have wavy lines. Seriously.<br />
<br />
This one is listed in<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/hoosierhome"> the shop.</a> </div>
Tonihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11191281100632912351noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5570392943749021215.post-36415099324074676932013-10-07T12:47:00.000-04:002013-10-07T12:47:11.289-04:00The Results: FAL Q3<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, looking back on <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/07/fal-plans-for-q3.html">my goals for this quarter</a> it appears that I was moderately successful. 3 out of 8 isn't too bad, right? And the fourth is sooo close to being finished that I very nearly included it, too. I'm pretty sure that if one of my kids brought home a test with only 3/8 right I wouldn't be so quick to call it a success! But, I also started and finished several projects that weren't on the list so I can be too hard on myself. Here's the rundown:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9259085909/" title="Road to TN, top complete by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Road to TN, top complete" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3818/9259085909_4b69149daf_c.jpg" width="584" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
1. <b>Hometown Road to Tennessee: </b>No progress. I really thought that this would be the first one crossed off the list since the top was already done, but no. I still haven't chosen a backing for it. I think I'll probably wait and quilt this one next time I go to my parents' house, so maybe I can check it off after the holidays!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Stacked Squares: </b>No progress, and still no picture. Just imagine a shockingly yellow and pink baby quilt with highly inaccurate flying geese. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9278581314/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7382/9278581314_962140d661_c.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<b>3. Diamond Ripples</b>: What's this? Another no progress? That's just sad.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9479262527/" title="Les Amis on rail by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Les Amis on rail" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7287/9479262527_a3f4b2417e_c.jpg" width="564" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<b>4.<a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/les-amis-are-swell.html"> Les Amis:</a> </b>Finally, a finish! Want to know the really fun part? This was my first (ahem, and only...) sale in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/hoosierhome">Etsy shop</a>. Such a fun little quilt!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9426043493/" title="Modern D9P by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Modern D9P" height="640" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5479/9426043493_9f4fbd0caa_c.jpg" width="612" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<b>5. Mod D9P:</b> Another finish! You can read all about it <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/modern-d9p.html">right here.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9278443664/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2823/9278443664_5a299d2ce4_c.jpg" width="600" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<b>6. Scrappy Log Cabins: </b>Nope, no progress here either. Though they did inspire another baby quilt that I finished at least a month ago and haven't shown here yet. That should count for something, right?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9553457957/" title="Taller help has arrived! #modernmaples #fallingformodernmaples by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Taller help has arrived! #modernmaples #fallingformodernmaples" height="500" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3721/9553457957_81a45deafa.jpg" width="500" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<b>7. <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/modern-maples.html">Modern Maples:</a></b> Of course I finished this one! And it is hanging in my dining room as we speak, looking all festive. I love it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<b>8. Winter Wonderland Sampler: </b>This is the one that is so, so close to being done. I worked on this one the whole trip to and from Iowa, and most evenings while we were there. I really only have probably 20 stitches left, but didn't even take it out until this morning to take the picture!<br />
<br />
So there you go...Thank you so much to <a href="http://shecanquilt.blogspot.com/">Leanne</a> for the motivation to finish these projects! To see what everyone else finished last quarter, <a href="http://shecanquilt.blogspot.ca/2013/09/its-time-to-link-up-your-q3-finish-long.html">here's the link</a>. I'm looking forward to a few more finished in the fourth quarter! </div>

I figured that the chances were good that I wouldn't post again tomorrow, so I thought I would combine the two and make a random WIP post. Sound good?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
October is my month as quilter for the Imagine Circle of dGS. I always have the hardest time choosing a block for everyone to make! A few weeks ago, I saw <a href="http://sewonderfulife.blogspot.com/2013/09/fal-finish-at-last.html">Catherine's Brit Bee quilt </a>that she had just finished and knew that I wanted our group to try that one, too.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.co.uk/2005/06/pineapple-blossom.html">The tutorial</a> can be found at Quiltville, and I asked everyone to use low-volume prints for the triangles and a scrappy assortment of colors inspired by this:<br />

Our circle is also having it's first swap this fall. I'm excited to get to work on my partner's gift, I just have to actually decide on something! We could list three things we wanted to get, and if I remember correctly I listed a mini quilt, pillow, or a bag to hold my crochet. Here's the mosaic I made for inspiration: <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10040748105/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Imagine Circle Swap 2013 by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Imagine Circle Swap 2013" height="640" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5340/10040748105_94b2efd255_c.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here is <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10040748105/">the list of links </a>for each individual pic. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The other thing that I have been working on quite a bit lately is a custom quilt. Honestly, I was a little worried at first because the customer wanted a Jersey cow and horse quilt for her little girl. For those of you not so knowledgeable on cattle breeds, the ones that are usually on fabric are Holsteins. Jerseys are hard to find! But eBay came to the rescue with Jersey cows on Kona, and my customer picked out a couple of fun quilts for inspiration. The horses will be on the back. Here's what I've got so far:<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/10045950735/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2857/10045950735_3ace7410ac_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I haven't done too many custom orders, but I really love the challenge of combining the customer's vision with my own style. This has been a fun one to work on! It needs to be shipped to Australia by Christmas, so I'm trying to get it done as soon as possible. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other things keeping me busy aren't quite as exciting...All the kids and I have been sick for almost two weeks but I think we're finally on the mend. And somehow I've gotten suckered in to being the Treasurer for the PTO at Wyatt's school. It's fun getting to spend time at his school and actually be around grown-ups, but October is a very busy month with PTO activities, not to mention that our crops are ready to be harvested! Crazy times for sure! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, if anyone has tips on getting babies to take breathing treatments without screaming or shipping boxes to Australia, be sure to let me know! Hope you all are doing well!</div>

A few weeks ago I bought a fat-eighth bundle of <a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/shop/designers/violet-craft.html">Violet Craft's</a> latest line Waterfront Park. Amanda always has the best bundles in her shop <a href="http://westwoodacres.etsy.com/">Westwood Acres </a>and I find the fat-eighth ones irresistible. They're a great size to use for one or two baby quilts and not feel like you are breaking the bank or have loads of scraps left over. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9915652436/" title="Waterfront Park Baby Quilt by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Waterfront Park Baby Quilt" height="800" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7457/9915652436_599fb950ac_c.jpg" width="594" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been wanting to try the <a href="http://greenleafgoods.wordpress.com/2013/03/02/a-half-square-trianglelog-cabin-hstlc-tutorial/">Log Cabin HST tutorial</a> by my friend Natalie since I first saw it a few months ago. So I decided to combine the two and see what happened. Turns out, it was a little chaotic, but after looking at it a bit longer I really like it.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9915264975/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7297/9915264975_460073c7a0_c.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I decided to use this calm Ikea print for the backing as a counterpoint to the busy front. Kona Cerise just happens to go really well with the colors in this line, so it was an easy choice for the binding. And of course my go-to wavy quilting was another given. Straight lines echoing one of the diamond shapes would have been cool, too, but what can I say? I like the waves. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I get a little time today, this one will probably be going in the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/hoosierhome">shop</a>. Have a great day!</div>
Tonihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11191281100632912351noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5570392943749021215.post-62217425198069466412013-09-18T09:09:00.000-04:002013-09-18T09:09:48.572-04:00WIP Wednesday<div style="text-align: center;">
I feel like my WIPs are taking over the place, so that must mean it's time for a list, right? Every time that I do this it turns out that I don't really have as much going as it seems and I calm down a little. I guess that's a good thing! Or else I just have a bad memory!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Chicopee Cross on wall" height="640" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2819/9777000434_2fb30f5e60_c.jpg" width="588" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started this quilt a couple of weeks ago and finished the top on Monday. I'm using the rest of my Chicopee left from <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/05/chicopee-herringbone-bqf-spring-2013.html">this quilt</a>, plus Essex Linen in Natural. I love it, but I'm having a hard time deciding what to do for the back. For now, it's been folded up and put back in a WIP bin. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5448/9799621795_81c585e134_c.jpg" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is another quilt that I started a few weeks ago to use up some odd triangle scraps that have been hanging around for too long. This is one of those that I really liked at first, then hated for a few days. But after having it stuck on my design wall in the dining room for about a week, I decided that I do like it and may even hang it somewhere once it's done. It has been basted and is just waiting for me to quilt it. And speaking of design walls...can you see where a certain little mouse named Jill keeps tearing little bits off of mine? It's a good thing she's cute.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9776244105/" title="Untitled by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7325/9776244105_de95c1428a_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Have you ever had one of those projects that you were so excited about and knew it was going to be so incredibly cool once you finished it, only to absolutely hate it? Yep, that's how I feel about this one. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have had the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98385399/geese-in-the-forest-quilt-pattern-pdf">Geese in the Forest pattern</a> sitting around for quite a while now and keep changing my mind about how to use it. I also had a bag full of scraps from my <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/modern-maples.html">Modern Maples </a>quilt so I decided to combine the two, fully expecting some scrappy Autumn masterpiece to emerge. Sadly, it just didn't happen. I was looking forward to hanging this baby by my desk, but now it's in a drawer somewhere. I think that if I had just switched the pieces and kept the background white with scrappy "trees" it would have been much cooler. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9734129852/" title="Star Flare in blue by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Star Flare in blue" height="800" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3729/9734129852_d7da43f176_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I also need to finish this guy. I just need to choose the background color and get to it. If I can get it done in time, this one will be my contribution for <a href="http://swimbikequilt.com/2013/07/100-quilts-for-kids-charity-quilt-drive-starts-today.html">100 Quilts for Kids.</a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9798780555/" title="Briar Rose on wall by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Briar Rose on wall" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7427/9798780555_ecdf618a70_c.jpg" width="636" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought a fat-eighth bundle of Briar Rose and coordinating solids from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/westwoodacres">Westwood Acres </a>a few weeks ago and have been patiently waiting for the right quilt to come to mind. I had fun making some <a href="http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?p=561">Lemon Squares </a>blocks for a bee mate last week, so I decided to make a few more out of that lovely bundle. And the bonus? I should have enough Briar Rose left to make another baby quilt so I can play around with them again!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoosiertoni/9493873627/" title="Churn Dashes!! by HoosierToni, on Flickr"><img alt="Churn Dashes!!" height="800" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5449/9493873627_2ff723d1fc_c.jpg" width="600" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Churn Dash blocks from my Bee{Purposeful} ladies are slowly coming in, so hopefully I'll be able to work on this quilt in a week or two. Should be a fun one!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also have two more finished baby quilts that I just need to take pictures of and I still have quite a few things on my <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/07/fal-plans-for-q3.html">FAL list</a> that aren't finished either! Looks like my list wasn't as short as I was hoping...</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
While I was making my <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/star-flare-quilt.html">Star Flare quilt</a>, I had thought about making a tutorial for it but really wasn't sure if anyone would be interested. Well, when <a href="http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com/">Dana </a>put in her request I knew I needed to listen! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a simple quilt to make and though mine is in solids, I think it would look really cool in prints, too. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In this tutorial, I'll be referring to the fabrics we use as F1 through F5, with 1 being the inner star and working out from there. In my original version of the quilt, the fabrics that I used were Kona Cheddar (F1), Bella in Clementine (F2), Kona Tomato (F3), Kona Pomegranate (F4), and Kona Berry (F5).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Materials:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
F1: Fat Eighth or Fat Quarter</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
F2: Fat Eighth or Fat Quarter</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
F2: (4) 2" squares, (4) 2.5" squares, (4) 4" squares</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
F3: (4) 3.5" squares, (4) 4" squares, (4) 7" squares</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
F5: (4) 12.5" squares, (4) 13" squares</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Instructions:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. Pair up your F1 and F2 2.5" squares, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line through the center of each pair and sew a line a scant 1/4" on either side of your drawn line. Cut on the drawn line and press your seams. Trim the resulting HSTs to 2". </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. Sew the 2" squares of F2 to either side of the HSTs as shown in the diagram, then assemble your first star. Trim to 6.5" square.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. Pair up your F2 and F3 4" squares and make four HSTs as described in Step 1, but trim to 3.5" square. Using your block from Step 2 as the center square, assemble the next round as shown using the 3.5" squares of F3. Trim block to 12.5"</div>

I just finished most of my bee blocks for September. I haven't gotten much sewing time this week, but what I've squeezed in has just involved basting a couple of quilts. I was itching to actually do some fun sewing!<br />

Rog and I are going on a date tonight. According to my calculations, it has been about a year and a half since our last date night, which also included the ultrasound where we found out I was having a girl. I'd say we're due for another one. Date that is... not baby. <br />

We also celebrated our 8th anniversary a few days ago, so you get this lovely picture-of-a-picture.<br />

I went to my first PTO meeting yesterday. I guess that means I'm all grown up now.<br />

I'm working on a tutorial for my <a href="http://hoosiertoni.blogspot.com/2013/08/star-flare-quilt.html">Star Flare quilt</a> if anyone's interested. Hopefully I'll have time to finish it in the next day or two. I had a bad cold while I started writing it, so I've definitely had to re-check a few things!<br />

I made <a href="http://abeautifulbite.com/oven-roasted-poblano-pepper-soup/">this soup</a> the other day with peppers from our garden. It tasted really good, but was too spicy for anyone but Roger to eat. We had a delicious soup when we were in Mexico for my brother's wedding and I was hoping this would be similar. It was, but needs some adjusting. And look, our whole month of meals is planned already! I always mean to do this, but never do. It was one of my New School Year resolutions. Hopefully I'll stick with it!<br />
<br />
So what randomness has been going on in your life lately? Linking up with<a href="http://www.liveacolorfullife.net/2013/09/really-random-thursday-9513.html"> Cindy</a> and the other random ladies. <br />
