And Another One

We recently had a member step down from our circle of do.Good Stitches, so I volunteered to make another of our April blocks using Lee's Hexing Around the Block tutorial. Honestly, I wasn't paying that much attention to the color assignment when I volunteered or I probably would have passed.

I read "light blue" and thought of all the aqua scraps I had lying around and thought it would be easy to come up with enough. Then I re-read our original instructions and realized someone else was already making two aqua blocks and another was making medium/dark blue ones so I was stuck with true light blue. Not a shade I have much of, but I think I squeaked by.  The color is a little off here, but for the most part I kept it more light blue than aqua. Thank goodness for those Rainbow Charm Swaps!

I'm still waiting for my fun fabrics to arrive so I can start a few new projects, so in the meantime I decided to cut some squares for another little quilt.

No real plans for this one yet, just simple patchwork and if I'm feeling spunky I may attempt some orange-peel quilting.

And this is the latest version of child-proofing in our house...
I kept complaining to my husband about all the things Max gets into by pushing around our dining room chairs, so he took action, tying them together with some clothesline. Not the most attractive detail, but so far it works.

That's pretty much all the excitement around here this weekend. What's going on at your house?

  1. My son used to drag wooden chairs across the kitchen, climb onto the chair then onto the kitchen counter to get to the biscuit tin - when he was two! Still climbing now! But not the furniture....at least I don't think so!

  2. Pretty block! It's funny what colors are missing from our stash. I have almost no purple.

    Love the chair solution. Boys!

  4. Brilliant idea for the chairs...I may have to steal that one. My 5 year old and almost 3 year old leave them alone for the most part, but our 1 1/2 year old is climbing on EVERYTHING right now. The dining room chairs and my office chair are some of her favorites, and I'll turn around to find her standing on top of them ready to take a dive off the side. How do kids move so fast, anyway?

  5. Priceless! Something so simple can work. My house is a tip. The downstairs toilet and sink is still on the decking outside. There is so much dust and bags of grout and drills, and bits of tiles still waiting to be moved to the shed. I am ignoring it all and getting a bit of sewing done instead.

  6. Love the hexing around block, and it reminded me that I have several in a UFO bin that I should get back to. I really liked the block and can't remember why I put it away! Very ingenious of your hubby to tie up the chairs instead of the child!

  8. The block turned out great, love the Mcgiver fix of the dining room chairs. Tonight we had family over for supper, and tomorrow, myself and 2 friends are doing a huge stamping event- 50 ladies making 24 cards each- it should be lots of fun!!

  10. the block is great!! The chair straps made me laugh, I'd like some of those for all my furniture, and all my belongings when I come to think of it!

  11. Oh, I think I'd have had problems digging out that much light blue too! Well done though :o)

That is such a dad solution to the problem lol

  12. The block looks great! And I don't think I could even manage to get access to those chairs--very clever.

  13. I love it! One of my boys never kept his diaper on so we used duct tape to keep it on, ha ha! The things we do...

  14. Hahaha, that's awesome babyproofing! We were so bad about that for our second kid -- our older one kept finding outlet plugs that had fallen out, and he'd put them back in for us! >_<

  15. What a clever solution! Of course, he could have hung them on the walls like the Shakers did but I think this might be easier for you.
