WIP Wednesday

Thanks so much for the well wishes yesterday! I'm feeling a bit more human today, but poor baby Max seems to have picked up the bug now. Hopefully it will be easy on him!

Here's my only finish for the week:

The Mullet Bag, for my partner in the For the Love of Solids Swap. You can see it again here.

The only other progress I have made this week has been some hand-stitching on my pouch for the Mouthy Stitches swap. Where does everyone get the pretty colors of perle cotton that I see all over creation? Because my JoAnn's has some awful selections. I ended up getting some variegated colors because they were the only ones I could find that came close to having decent colors in them.

I still have a bit more stitching to do on the back, then I should be able to get this baby together. I hope I don't totally wreck it when I do the zipper ends. I still have not gotten the hang of those!

A bit more subdued on the back. I kind of like the linen-colored stitches, if only they were a little straighter...

  2. Your projects look great, and glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Hopefully your little guy doesn't get hit too hard.

As for the perle cotton, I have a Michael's in my town which is the only place to find perle cotton and their selection is rather dismal as well. I'd say ordering online is probably your best bet. Maybe etsy?

  9. Love the Mouthy Stitches pouch! Have you tried any yarn shops for the perle cotton? I can find tons of great colours at a shop here, as well as a fabric shop.

  10. I love that bag! It looks super useful too, I might need to get that pattern. I have had the same trouble with Joanns & perle cotton. :(

  12. I'm not going to lie--I want that bag to live with me! And, shoot, I really need to start on my solids project!

I ordered a box of the Anna Maria Horner Perle cotton. It's beautiful, but I can't say it's worth the price!

  13. Glad you're feeling better! Hopefully it passes through your little one quickly too.

I love both of your projects! Fingers crossed I'm your partner in one of the swaps. :)

I buy my perle thread at the amazing needlework shop in town. They have a website and do take online orders: www.nordicneedle.com. Joann's and Michael's both have a lousy selection. I have noticed a decent selection of colors at the quilt shop I go to for felt, but by far, Nordic Needle is thread heaven.

  16. Your hand stitching looks great. I'm a hand quilter and practice for small stitches. I really struggle to quilt the beautiful large stitches. I used embroidery thread and it wasn't pretty. It took three tries to even be acceptable on the robe I blogged today.
    Yours look great!

  22. Wow I love the mullet bag. Just found you through WiP ~ very nice to meet you!

Also, I agree with what the others said about embroidery thread; it's far better to buy online if your only local options are Joann's and Michaels. DMC has a huge range of colors that aren't sold there; Cosmo thread is a personal favorite of mine; and there are other wools that bright too. Good luck finding what you need!
